IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)/Photofacial

Intense Puled Light Therapy

One of the most popular ways to restore your skin to a more youthful appearance is an Intense Pulsed Light treatment, also known as an IPL or Photofacial.

An Intense Pulsed Light treatment is the solution for people who want the skin resurfacing and rejuvenating effects of microdermabrasion, chemical peel, and laser resurfacing without the harsh treatments. Photofacials are non-ablative and treat your skin with a process known as photorejuvenation, which works by delivering a high-intensity light deep into your skin. The Intense Pulsed Light works under your skin, while leaving the surface of your skin untouched, saving you from the red, irritated skin that often results immediately following a chemical peel or microdermabrasion treatment.

An Intense Pulsed Light or Photofacial treatment can reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, red spots, red complexion, age spots, sun spots, acne scars, facial scars, large pores, and blemishes. Different versions of an Intense Pulsed Light treatment can specifically target certain skin imperfections. For example, certain versions of Photofacials specifically target pigment, helping to reduce redness, sun spots, and age spots, while other Photofacial versions trigger collagen production, helping to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Dr. Hakimian can help determine which Intense Pulsed Light treatment is the right option for you to look and feel your best.

Dr. Hakimian can administer an Intense Pulsed Light treatment in 30 to 45 minutes. Unlike microdermabrasion or a chemical peel, there is little to no recovery time with a Photofacial, so Photofacial patients can apply makeup, wash their faces, return to work, and go about their daily activities right away. An additional advantage that Photofacial patients enjoy is the little to no discomfort associated with an Intense Pulsed Light treatment, meaning a greater area of your face can be treated in one session than that with a traditional laser peel.

Photofacial treatments require an average of four to six treatments for best results. However, since all the work is done under the skin’s surface, intervals between treatments are only a few weeks apart. Side effects may include redness or a change in pigmentation, but minimizing exposure to direct sunlight before and after the Intense Pulsed Light treatment can reduce these risks.
