Perlane® is an injectable gel comprised of hyaluronic acid, the natural substance found in your skin that gives it tightness and volume. Perlane® injections add volume to your skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, resulting in skin that is younger and fuller in appearance.

Perlane® is very similar to its sister filler, Restylane®. However, Perlane® is designed to be injected deeper into the skin, as it contains larger gel particles per drop than Restylane®. While Restylane® is best for people who want generally fuller skin, Perlane® offers best results when used to tackle deep-set facial lines and wrinkles. The results of Perlane® injections typically last from six to nine months.

Possible immediate complications from Perlane® injections include swelling, redness, pain, bruising, and tenderness near the injection sites. These symptoms usually subside within a week. Small red or swollen bumps may occur, but they are rare. If you currently have skin sores, pimples, rashes, hives, cysts, or an infection, you should wait until you are completely healed before using Perlane®. If you have experienced cold sores before, Perlane® injections may cause another outbreak. You should not use Perlane® if you have recently used drugs that thin your blood or prevent clotting, are pregnant, are breast-feeding, or are under 18 years of age. Perlane® should also not be used by people who have or have previously had bad allergies– especially to certain microorganisms known as gram positive bacteria,  people with previously bad allergies that have required in-hospital treatment, or people with bleeding disorders. Perlane® should not be injected anywhere except the skin or just under the skin.
